Celebrating Milestones with Tiarra

\"tiarra\"We would like to take the time to acknowledge one of our residents for meeting a major milestone in her life. Tiarra is beginning to walk on her own! There has been a huge team effort from family, rehab, child development, and nursing staff to help her reach this milestone. There are multiple steps in learning to walk and she has mastered them all!

Tiarra began her process by learning to pull herself up to stand on different pieces of furniture throughout the facility and actively engaging in activities that required her to balance while using her hands to manipulate different toys. Her  favorite activity was standing up while engaged in water play at a child sized water table. \"tiarra2\" The next step in her journey was learning to side step along the furniture. She would pull herself up and was encouraged to side step by placing a toy just out of her reach on the shelf and slowly increasing the distance. Tiarra began walking while holding on to an adult and she quickly felt confident enough to use only one hand because of the enormous support system she had.

The day has finally come that Tiarra can walk all by herself! We are all extremely proud of her. Children need constant reassurance that they are capable of accomplishing new tasks and love hearing praise when they final accomplish a milestone. Every milestone should be celebrated to let each and every child know we are here for them through the entire process.
