TK’s first Spirit Saturday was a success with Cowboy Day! This new initiative was designed to encourage residents and staff to tap into their creativity and have some extra fun. Cowboy Day was inspired by a resident’s interest in learning to square dance.
To foster that curiosity and celebrate Cowboy culture, the Child Development team provided hats, bandanas, and screened the movie Rango—a children’s film inspired by old Western culture. For many residents, it was their first exposure to the language, accents, and rich history of the American West. Not only was this fun, but it also helped with language development as residents practiced listening to new accents and expanding their vocabulary.
Cowboy Day also encouraged imaginative play. Two residents eagerly roamed the MP room, shouting “Yeehaw!” and pretending to twirl lassos, while others beamed with excitement as they learned new words and embraced the fun.
