Furry Friends Help Our Kids Recover

Pet therapy is an important component of our recreation therapy program. Our patients and residents regularly interact with therapy dogs from the Pet Prescription Team, whose slogan is “Healing hearts through pets.”  Today, during one of those visits, three very special dogs were introduced to our kids by their handlers.

Megan, Molly, and Allie, who Golden Retriever, Maltese & Yorkie, and German Shepherd breeds, made our kids very happy with their presence and kind temperaments. 8-year-old Azariah, was one of those joyful kids. He was elated as he interacted with these beautiful dogs, and even carried little Molly on his lap.

Pet therapy helps our patients and residents in their recovery. Although pet therapy sessions are usually 15-20 minutes in duration, the effects on patients are long-lasting. Kids who participate usually feel less tired, feel more optimistic about their recovery, and cannot wait to tell everyone about their furry visitors. They always look forward to the next canine visit.

We are happy and grateful to the Pet Prescription Team for their visit to our campus and for the joy they bring to our kids. Our 4-legged friends Megan, Molly, and Allie will continue to come by and draw smiles on the faces of all our kids around them!
