Jaxon was born with Congenital Myotonic Dystrophy (Type 1), usually characterized by muscle weakness, prolonged muscle tensing, and complications with breathing. The doctors who first provided him medical care at the hospital where he was born said he would be lucky to live to be a year old. The good news is that Jaxon is now 3!
With the love of his family, and with the help of Totally Kids staff, Jaxon continues to succeed in everything he does, enjoying as normal a life as possible in an environment in which he thrives. Jaxon loves listening to music, including anything from George Straight to Lynyrd Skynyrd. He also enjoys movies; especially Monsters Inc. His favorite activities are getting kisses from his mama and breathing without his vent. As soon as he is taken off the vent he begins to smile and talks up a storm.
Jaxon is truly amazing as he continuously beats the odds. Doctors at Totally Kids note, “Every time they say Jaxon would not be able to perform an activity he proves us wrong!”
CMMD cannot and will not stop him! Go Jaxon, Go!
