Open House Reflections
Thank you for a successful Open House!
On October 19 we hosted dozens of doctors, nurses, therapists, social workers, case managers, and administrators during our Totally Kids Rehabilitation Hospital Open House. This great event gave us an opportunity to connect with members of our medical community and to share with them the many reasons why Totally Kids is so unique.
During the open house, everyone in attendance toured our campus, including our 25-bed acute rehabilitation hospital, 56-bed subacute care facility, outpatient therapy gym, and KidShip, our Pediatric Day Health and Preschool and program. Additionally, some of the tours extended onto Circlebrook, our intermediate care facility, and our Kids4Ever House, where families of our residents can spend the night and remain in close proximity.
Department leaders and members of our administrative team conducted the tours. They stood ready to listen to comments and answer questions from our guests throughout the tour. Many who were visiting our facilities for the first time said they were surprised by how large Totally Kids actually is, by the beautiful design of our acute hospital, and by the fact that we have been in operation for over 40 years.
The open house featured a lecture on Life After Pediatric Brain Injury by Dr. Thaddeus Wilson, Board Certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine. Dr. Wilson held two sessions of the lecture from 11 a.m. to noon, and then again from 1 to 2 p.m. in the acute conference room. Registered Nurses in attendance received Continuing Education Units.
During the lunch break, Dr. Wilson made himself available to answer a multitude of questions in our acute dining area. Carol Wolfe, Director of Respiratory Services, joined Dr. Wilson and answered questions about our Home Vent Training Program. The energy in the dining room was palpable as people enjoyed lunch, met new colleagues, took pictures, asked questions, made comments, and had an all-around great time.
Our open house concluded with a raffle of five specially made gift baskets. The group of winners represented those in attendance quite well. They included one neurosurgeon, two case managers, one therapist, and one administrator. It was a great end to a great event.
The bar was set high for future events because this open house was such a success! We will be scheduling our next open house during the first quarter of next year but you may call and make arrangements for a personal tour by calling one of our case managers at 909-796-6915. We will continue to share with our local medical community the many reasons why Totally Kids Rehabilitation Hospital is truly unique . Stay tuned so you too may join us again or come visit us for the first time!
