Meet Gannon

We would like to introduce you to Gannon. Gannon became part of the Totally Kids family in 2016 when he was still an infant. Suffering from chronic respiratory failure, Gannon was admitted as a technology-dependent resident. He also received treatment for spastic quadriplegia, a form of cerebral palsy that creates a continuous stiffening or tightening of the arms and legs. On March 18 of this year, after meeting the outcomes that were laid forth as part of his treatment, Gannon reached his goals and was discharged to go him with his family.

Beating the Odds with Family by His Side
Gannon’s mother, Ashley, shared with us that when he was born, doctors said it would be very unlikely for him to reach his first birthday. Ashley knew her son was a fighter and that he would pull through and prove his doctors wrong. Today, he is almost 5 years old and stronger than ever. Although his family felt they had a tough journey ahead of them, they faced it with endless love and support for Gannon. His mom and Grandmother, Jennifer, were constantly involved in his life, treatments, and activities until he reached the outcomes necessary to take him home. At Totally Kids we encourage parents and family members to be involved in their child’s care. We know that such involvement is crucial in helping children feel better and reach their outcomes faster. The love and support Gannon received from his family had a very positive effect on him while at Totally Kids, and it allowed him to be discharged to join them at home.

Continuing to Thrive
Ashley shared with us that Gannon continues to thrive at home. He is now talking, becoming more alert of his surroundings, and tracking sounds and visual cues. She showed us a photo of Gannon with a big smile, enjoying a day in the pool. He is doing so well that once in a while he misbehaves and does things he knows will get the attention of his new nurses at home.

The level of commitment displayed by Ashley and Jennifer towards Gannon was instrumental in ensuring Gannon’s condition improved. In order to take Gannon home, special training was necessary, and we are proud of Ashley and Jennifer for completing everything in order to make Gannon coming home a reality. Totally Kids was blessed to be part of their lives for a short time and to play an important role in his recovery!
