Totally Kids is Featured in Emmy® Award Winning Documentary Series
Totally Kids Rehabilitation Hospital was featured in season 4, episode 1, of the Emmy® Award winning series Life on the Line. The series was created by Mound City Films, a documentary film team based in Loma Linda, CA. Their aim is to highlight stories that reflect the resilience and positive nature of humankind. The episode, which is titled, Flight to Survive, follows an emergency trauma team as it transports injured children by helicopter to Loma Linda University Children’s Health (LLUCH). LLUCH is one of the few level 1 pediatric trauma centers in the country.
The episode focuses on the amazing people who are part of the LLUCH emergency trauma team and showcases their amazing work with pediatric patients, including 3-year-old Emery Ramos, who after receiving life-saving care and treatment for a stroke, was transferred to Totally Kids Rehabilitation Hospital. While with us Emery received intensive therapies to regain some of the abilities she had lost due to the stroke. The day the stroke happened, Emery went from enjoying typical childhood games and activities to being blind in both eyes and unable to move one of her legs. The episode highlights that through the Physical, Occupational, Speech, and Recreational therapy she received while at Totally Kids, Emery was able to regain most of the abilities she had lost. This includes 80% of her vision, defying the dire prognosis she had received from doctors who said it was likely that she would not be able to see again. After a month at Totally Kids, Emery was discharged to go home with family and friends.
As always, Totally Kids is humbled and grateful for the opportunity we had in playing a role in Emery’s recovery and the fact that we were able to partner with LLUCH in order to make it happen.
