Pediatric Subacute Care

A national model for enriching the health and quality of life for children with clinically complex conditions

Pediatric Subacute Care

Our subacute program provides visionary medical and nursing post-acute care to children who have clinically complex conditions, many of whom are dependent on technology. To maximize their quality of life, our team of caring professionals combine clinical skills with boundless compassion to create a home-like environment that supports each child’s physical and psychological growth and overall development.

The Children in Our Care

Children and young adults in our subacute program range from newborns to 21 years of age. Among the most common conditions are:

  • Congenital birth defects
  • Neurological illnesses and injuries
  • Cardiac and respiratory illness
  • Seizure disorders
  • Premature birth complications
  • Technology dependence

A Whole Child Approach

To provide familiarity and consistency in treatment, we pair each child with one of our nurturing caregivers who understands the patient's individual needs and potentials. These caregivers are experts supporting each child's unique developmental needs through providing fun, educational and therapeutic activities to help each child grow at his or her pace. We also believe strongly that play should be a priority and so we encourage children in our care to explore their environment, interact with other children, and participate in fun, educational and therapeutic activities.

Support for Parents

We believe that an equal partnership between our medical team and the child’s parents & family is an essential part in the care of the child. That’s why our team works with the family to develop a customized plan of care once a full evaluation of the child has been completed. This plan includes providing parents with the education and encouragement they need to become active participants in their child’s recovery, as well as the support and tools necessary to optimize their child’s return to home and school when medically possible.

Superior Patient Outcomes

Year after year our subacute program achieves superior clinical outcomes that exceed industry norms. As a result, our program has not only received the highest possible rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) but has gained widespread acceptance within the medical, scientific and parental communities.  It’s no wonder than that referring physicians and parents alike trust us to take care of these children.

Testimonials

Ravindra Rao, M.D.

Chief Medical Officer - Totally Kids Subacute Program | Professor of Pediatrics - Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital

At Totally Kids we care for children with special health care needs that very few facilities can provide. It is gratifying to see some of these children going home after spending a long time with us. Parents continue to express their appreciation for all that we do and we are particularly happy that we have so many health care workers attending to their children all the time.

Amber McIntyre

Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant

I have found that no two patients are alike and that understanding creates an environment of growth in knowledge while encouraging total teamwork. Totally Kids is unlike any other facility where I have ever worked before.

Raquel Morales LVN

Infection Prevention & Control Nurse

Having the opportunity to work at Totally Kids has been totally awesome. To stop and make a child smile or laugh during your shift remains a beautiful blessing as a pediatric nurse. I wouldn't change it for the world.
