Third-party data indicates that, on the average, patients at Totally Kids® Rehabilitation Hospital achieve more therapy-related progress, in less time, than patients at other rehabilitation facilities.
This is good news for patients since it allows them to go back to their homes and schools quicker, and in that process, rejoin a portion of the lives they enjoyed before the accident, disease, or condition they endured. That is just what Totally Kids aims to do with each patient!
How Progress Is Measured
The yardstick used to determine the amount of progress a patient achieves is the Functional Independence Measure (FIM®) Instrument, also referred to as the WeeFIM in pediatric facilities.
This instrument allows therapists to keep track of the amount of motor or cognitive activities that a patient is able to perform. Some of these activities may include: Bathing, dressing the upper or lower body, transferring from tub to shower, using the stairs, participating in social interactions, and problem solving, among others.
Members of the medical and therapy staff track WeeFIM® scores regularly, and therefore are able to gauge the progress being achieved throughout each therapy session. These scores are periodically reported to the Uniform Data System for Medical Rehabilitation, a third-party organization that compares WeeFIM® scores among similar rehabilitation facilities, and to all facilities across the country.
The Latest Data Shows that Totally Kids Is Hitting the Mark
The latest report (7/1/2016 to 6/30/2017) from the Uniform Data System for Medical Rehabilitation revealed the following data about patients who were treated at Totally Kids Rehabilitation Hospital when compared to similar pediatric rehabilitation facilities and to all rehabilitation facilities across the country:
- The average Discharge WeeFIM® Rating Total was 82.0 for Totally Kids, compared to 80.0 at similar facilities, and 74.6 at all other rehabilitation facilities in the country. This means that at the time of discharge, the average patient at Totally Kids had a greater ability to perform the tasks measured by the WeeFIM®, than did patients at other facilities.
- The average Length-Of-Stay (LOS) was 16.9 days for Totally Kids, 29.5 days for similar facilities, and 23.6 days at all other rehabilitation facilities in the country. This means that our kids achieved therapy goals within a much shorter time that did patients at other facilities.
This data confirms that at Totally Kids is hitting the mark. By achieving greater progress in a shorter time, on the average, patients are able to return to the lives they are familiar with, much quicker!
