When Ryion arrived at our hospital, he had just survived a traumatic accident that ejected him from a vehicle. He sustained a severe traumatic brain injury and faced complex medical challenges. Dependent on a tracheostomy to breathe and a G-tube for nutrition, he was admitted to our subacute unit in a minimally responsive state. In those early days, recovery felt uncertain. Ryion couldn’t actively engage in therapy, but our team immediately began providing therapy, building a foundation for what was to come.
During this time, his mother held onto something stronger than fear: faith. “The best advice I could give is to keep hope alive, keep prayer alive, and lean on those around you,” she shared. “I leaned on my support system so much during this time. I am so grateful to my family and friends. Prayer is powerful.” Slowly, Ryion began to wake up. As his awareness returned, we transitioned him to our acute rehabilitation unit, where therapy intensified and his recovery truly began. The focus shifted from total care to helping him reclaim his independence-regaining motor skills, speech, cognition, and the ability to perform everyday tasks.
Every step forward was hard-earned. Though the journey was far from easy, Ryion often met the challenge with a smile, saying, “That’s light work.” His determination, coupled with support from his care team and family, fueled his progress: the tracheostomy came out, the G-tube was removed, his voice returned, and first steps became confident laps around the facility. As Ryion continued to make remarkable strides, it was clear that healing was happening not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually. The day he walked out of the hospital under his own power was unforgettable. It wasn’t just a discharge; it was a celebration of faith, hope, and family.
Today, Ryion is thriving, and his mother calls the care he received a “five-star experience all around.” She adds, “Everyone at the facility was amazing and caring. They were very understanding. I would recommend anyone to take their child to Totally Kids Rehabilitation Hospital.” Ryion’s story is more than a medical recovery- it’s a testament to what’s possible when expert care, unwavering hope, deep faith, and the strength of family come together.
We are honored to have been a part of his incredible journey.
