Ventilator Weaning Program
Totally Kids® Rehabilitation Hospital’s Ventilator Weaning Program provides a standard of evidence-based approach to weaning from mechanical ventilation. Our goal is to successfully transition from mechanical ventilator to breathing independently.
At any giving time TKRH has 40 or more mechanically ventilated pediatric patients. Our program is led by a team of pediatric intensivist from Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital. Our approach to successful weaning is developed through an individual plan of care. We identify the child’s individual need for mechanical ventilation and work closely with the multidisciplinary team to meet the child’s weaning goals.
We encourage family participation with their child’s care. We understand the anxiety a family must face when their child is on a machine to help them breathe. We provide family education about the weaning process and provide caregiver training session.
Our goal is to help all of our young patients return to their families and communities.
