Additional Care

Med/Surg & Additional Services

Beyond our inpatient programs, Totally Kids offers a full continuum of care that extends our expertise to more children, families and physicians across the community.

Med/Surg Care

Totally Kids' general acute care unit provides medical and surgical inpatient care for children with complex needs, including infants who need extra time and support before or after a medical intervention.

Our Wait and Grow Program cares for infants born with congenital heart defects who aren't yet ready for heart surgery. Rather than operating immediately, our team helps these babies grow and stabilize first, an approach shown to improve outcomes for medically fragile newborns.

We also care for infants born substance-exposed (Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome), often as a step-down option when a NICU is at capacity, as well as children recovering from cancer treatment who need ongoing medical support during their healing.

Respite Care and Vent Tune-Ups

Totally Kids also offers two short-term stay options, available for both acute and subacute needs.

Respite Stays give families a planned break, with the peace of mind that their child is in capable hands for a short stay. This includes subacute-level care, so children with G tubes, ventilators, and tracheostomies can be cared for as well.

Vent Tune-Ups offer a short stay focused on optimizing a child's ventilator settings and respiratory status, giving families and physicians confidence that a child's respiratory support is properly calibrated.

Three Disciplines,
One coordinated Team

Speech Therapy supports children working on communication, feeding and swallowing, and cognitive-communication skills, helping kids build the tools they need to express themselves and connect with the people around them.

Occupational Therapy focuses on the skills kids need for everyday life, from fine motor control to self-care tasks to sensory processing, so children can participate more fully at home, at school, and at play.

Physical Therapy builds strength, mobility, and coordination, helping kids move toward greater independence at whatever pace is right for them.

The Latest Technologies

Available to your child at Totally Kids are the latest cutting-edge technologies found in the nation's most sophisticated pediatric rehabilitation centers. These include:

  • EKSO Bionic Exoskeleton. This remarkable, wearable device allows patients to perform movements and utilize muscles that may have been injured as a result of spinal cord injury, stroke, or other conditions or disorders.
  • Virtual Reality. Our virtual reality apps — including video games, music, guided imagery and relaxation training - help with anxiety, pain management and range-of-motion training.
  • Biofeedback. Effectively used for pain management and to increase range of motion, biofeedback gives patients the ability to practice new ways to control their own body, leading to improved health condition or physical performance.
  • Neurofeedback. Also known as EEG, this therapy allows for the retraining of specific areas of a patient's brain to bring it back to its functional best and has proven to be a safe and promising treatment for children with brain injuries, seizures, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder and other symptoms.
  • AmpCare. This non-invasive rehabilitation treatment stimulates the muscles that are responsible for swallowing and helps those muscles relearn how to swallow independently.

Our state-of-the-art facility also features:

  • A rehabilitation gym
  • Isolation rooms to promote an infection-free environment
  • Outdoor therapy gardens
  • On-site access to diagnostic imaging and laboratory services
