Importance of Developmental Play

At Totally Kids, we have designed a group specifically for infants and children to achieve their Early Childhood Developmental Milestones in the following areas; Play, Cognition, Social, Emotional & Gross Motor Skill. Play can be adapted for any age so that activities/ toys and goals are always age appropriate. It allows the child to explore and relate to his/her environment and peers through the use of developmental play. Toys that are used include but are not limited to: early infant educational/ developmental/sensory toys ie. rattles, activity crib centers stacking toys, blocks, pull toys, push toys, ride on toys, activity tables, mobiles, shape sorters, puppets, dolls, tea parties, play kitchens, play tool sets, finger paints, cars, trucks,  puzzles, and books. These are just to name a few!

Specific treatment goals addressed through play encompass gross motor, sensory, cognitive/emotional and play/social developmental milestones. ie. visual tracking/eye contact, self-soothing, transfers a toy from one hand to another, explores and examines an object using both hands, plays in different positions- lying on back, rolling onto tummy and sitting up.

Our Recreation Therapists will meet with you to schedule individual or group Play Sessions with you and your baby where you can receive instruction and hands on demonstration of how developmental play can progress your baby in reaching their goals and developmental milestones.

We look forward to working/playing with you and your baby!
