Subacute Preschool Program

Our Preschool Program is here! Totally Kids is proud to announce that it has incorporated a dynamic, interactive, fun-filled program in our hospital. The program caters to our 2–5-year-old (active population) in our Subacute Area. The program looks to foster skills such as gross and fine motor development, social interactions, language development, sensory exploration, music, and movement activities as well as many other areas of the development in a more natural environment. Our more active young residents here at Totally Kids now have a place to interact with peers, and play in an open environment filled with various sensory enriched activities such as art and crafts, sensory tables, instruments, blocks, a play gym, as well a “social dramatic” area. The residents also participate in music and movement activities, storytime, and outdoor walks to our gardens. The preschool program is directed by the Child Development Department and follows an emergent curriculum, that looks at each child’s developmental levels and strengths while providing opportunities for growth in all areas. The Rehab team will also have the opportunity to participate with the Child Development team during these hours in a more collaborative setting. Our nursing staff will help monitor all of the medical needs of our residents, while also actively interacting with the residents in this fun and safe environment. The residents participating in this program have already shown progress in all areas of development in just a few weeks’ time. The areas of progress more noted are: their social skills, verbal/sign skills, and most significantly their gross motor development. We looked forward to seeing how our residents continue to reach each individual milestone in this environment.
