Scratch Art Activity

Social Recreation Program

The Social Recreation Program at Totally Kids Rehabilitation Hospital is designed to provide our residents with opportunities for sensory integration, socialization, leisure, and creative expression. As part of this program, we’re constantly seeking engaging activities that cater to diverse interests and abilities. Scratch Art emerged as a perfect fit, offering a delightful blend of sensory stimulation, creativity, and skill-building.

One of the most captivating aspects of Scratch Art is the sensory experience it provides. Residents were fascinated by the tactile sensation of scratching away the black paint to reveal vibrant colors underneath, offering a delightful combination of tactile and visual stimulation. This multi-sensory experience not only engages the senses but also promotes relaxation and a sense of accomplishment. For individuals with sensory sensitivities or those seeking sensory input, this activity offered a delightful and therapeutic experience.

In addition to sensory exploration, Scratch Art proved to be an excellent tool for developing fine motor skills. The precise movements required to scratch away the paint demanded focus, control, and coordination. For residents working on improving dexterity and hand-eye coordination, Scratch Art provided a fun and meaningful way to practice these skills.

With Scratch Art, the possibilities are endless. Residents let their imaginations run wild as they created intricate designs, whimsical patterns, and stunning artworks. From simple doodles to elaborate scenes, each scratch revealed a new layer of creativity and self-expression. For many residents, this was not just a craft activity but a means of storytelling and personal exploration.

Lastly, Scratch Art provided an opportunity for residents to celebrate their achievements and take pride in their creations. Whether it was completing an intricate design or simply enjoying the process of creating, each resident had their moment to shine. Displaying their artworks in common areas further reinforced their sense of accomplishment and belonging within our community.

At Totally Kids Rehabilitation Hospital, we’re committed to providing holistic care that nurtures the mind, body, and spirit. Through innovative programs like the Social Recreation Program and engaging activities like Scratch Art, we empower our residents to explore their potential, express themselves creatively, and enjoy moments of joy.
